Thank you for volunteering as a coach! Your dedication and commitment play a vital role in shaping the experiences and development of our athletes. To help ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, we require all volunteer coaches to complete a background check, a concussion course, and a child abuse prevention course. Below, you'll find detailed instructions on how to complete these requirements.
Step 1: Complete a Background Check

To begin the background check process, please follow these steps:
- Visit the background check portal.
- Complete the application and submit it.
- A team member will review your submission and, if necessary, contact you for further information.
Step 2: Complete a Child Abuse Prevention Course
* Required Each Year *
To complete the Child Abuse Prevention course:
- Visit the Child Abuse Prevention course website.
- Select "Login or Register".
- Sign in to your account. If you do not have an account, register for one.
- Complete the "Boundary Town Training" by selecting ALL "Course Content" tabs
- Each section will include a brief quiz
- Once you've completed the full course, download your certificate.
- Email your certificates to the program coordinator or clintoncitysports@gmail.com
Step 3: Submit Your Certification
After completing the child abuse prevention course in Step 2, submit your certificate:
- Email your certificates to the program coordinator or clintoncitysports@gmail.com
- Once your background check has been reviewed and we've received your certificate, you are eligible to coach.
Concussion Course
The concussion course is no longer required of coaches. However, a training is linked below if you wish to educate yourself on this important issue.
- Visit the concussion course website.
- Select "Utah" as your state.
- Sign in to your account. If you do not have an account, register for one.
- Click "Start Learning."
- Click "Begin Course" next to the "Concussion in Sports" course.
Clinton City Concussion and Head Injury Policy
Purpose
To comply with Utah Code 26B-4-404 and ensure the safety of youth athletes participating in Clinton City-sponsored sporting events.
Policy Overview
1. Immediate Removal
If a child is suspected of having a concussion or traumatic head injury during a sporting event:
- They must be immediately removed from the activity.
2. Medical Evaluation
- The child cannot return to play until they have been evaluated by a qualified health care provider.
3. Written Clearance Required
- The child may only resume participation after providing the Clinton City Recreation Department with a written clearance from a qualified health care provider.
Definitions
- Qualified Health Care Provider: A licensed professional trained in evaluating and managing concussions and traumatic head injuries.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to complete these items every season?
Your background check and child abuse prevention training need to be renewed every year. If you've coached a sport with us within the year, you won't need to complete it again. Please contact our office if you are unsure if you need to complete it.
Is there a fee for completing these items?
No. All items are free to complete.
How do I become a coach?
If you are passionate about sports and enjoy working with kids, we would love to have you join our coaching team. Please contact the Clinton City Recreation office if you're interested in coaching or want more information.
